Carbon footprint
An organisation records its footprint for a year and its plan to reduce it.
MITECO registry guide
MITECO runs a public registry. Organisations record their carbon footprint. Forestry projects record the CO₂ they absorb. A compensation links the two.
The registry
Royal Decree 214/2025 of 18 March sets up the registry. MITECO runs it.
The seal
Calculo. The footprint for the year is registered.
Emissions have fallen, by MITECO’s criteria.
Part or all of the footprint is compensated with absorptions from registered Spanish projects. The certificate shows the share compensated.
MITECO grants the seal. ClearSky does not.
Required or voluntary
Royal Decree 214/2025 requires some large companies and state public bodies to calculate their footprint and publish a reduction plan. State public bodies must also register it. Compensation is always voluntary. It comes after reduction, not instead of it.
How a compensation works
You
Only a registered footprint can be compensated. Register it first.
You and ClearSky
You buy tonnes of absorbed CO₂ from a project registered with MITECO. One unit is one tonne. The minimum is 1 tonne.
ClearSky
We file the transfer of the tonnes to you. MITECO records it and issues a transfer code: a d followed by seven digits. The code shows you hold the tonnes.
You or your representative
The compensation is filed on MITECO’s e-office with the transfer code and a digital certificate. An authorised representative can file it for you.
MITECO
MITECO has three months to resolve. If it does not answer in that time, the application counts as accepted. Once recorded, your seal shows Compenso for that year.

A summary, not legal advice. The official texts prevail. MITECO determines registration and seal eligibility. ClearSky supports the process and does not grant the seal. Compensation complements emissions reduction.
